/// THE MIDIUM® X RACHEL'S CHALLENGE

As of 25 February 2026, marking our 5th anniversary of being in business full time, The Midium® has partnered with Rachel's Challenge by committing to send the pro-kindness, pro-compassion, and pro-empathy focused cause 1% of our gross sales in order to support their programs.
Rachel Joy Scott, born in Denver, Colorado, in August of 1981, was the first person to lose their life during the Columbine High School shootings that took place on 20 April 1999. Her father, Darell Scott, alongside Rachel's step-mom Sandy, founded the suicide, school violence, and bullying prevention program to honor Rachel's memory and promote messages of compassion, empathy, connection, and hope among school-aged children.
As seen on their website, Rachel's Challenge is committed to the following:
Our Vision.
Rachel’s Challenge envisions schools full of hope, free from harassment, violence, and self-harm, where teachers are free to teach and students are inspired to learn.
Our Mission.
Rachel’s Challenge addresses the root causes of school violence, bullying, prejudice, and self-harm through student wellness programs that build connection, hope and resilience. We improve school culture so that students are able to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.
Cami, co-founder and curator of The Midium®, remembers where they were when the shootings took place. "I was stationed in Texas at the time, in basic training, and I was processing some paperwork with some members of my flight when we saw that the local news was reporting on a shooting at a high school in Colorado. We were stunned, and later that evening we got together to talk about what happened. Each of us felt it. Considering the sheer weight of that tragedy, I think everyone who listened to the news that 20th of April remembers where they were when they found out."
When asked why The Midium® chose Rachel's Challenge, Cami answered, "Teaching and reinforcing empathy, compassion, and connection in our society is of paramount importance, especially when it comes to school-aged children, since they are still building the foundation of their values at that stage in their lives. Extraordinary teachers and school employees across the U.S. do that every single day, and their efforts show young folks why kindness is so important. By further building instructional programs focused on words, deeds, and feelings, we can all, as a society, give kids and adults alike the hope and tools needed to form a world based on kindness and respect for all. This is a big reason why Rachel's Challenge is such an important program and why we want to support it."
Erin, who is Cami's wife and co-founder and curator of The Midium®, talks about hers and her husband's objective. "We are a small family-owned-and-operated synth and instrument retailer based in the County of Los Angeles, California, and we see our 1% for Rachel's Challenge initiative as a big step towards leaving the world better than how we found it. We want to help the Scott family and everyone at Rachel's Challenge continue their invaluable work, and we appreciate everything they are doing to help young people enjoy peaceful spaces where they can safely focus on their education and build beautiful, lasting memories with their classmates, peers, and friends."
The Midium® began talks with Rachel's Challenge during the 2026 NAMM Show held in Anaheim, California, in January 2026. Cami happened to meet Rachel's Challenge CEO Kristi Krings during the show, and their conversation led to this great beginning of a beautiful friendship between both organizations.
